Zhang Qingli, vice-chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), met with Alojz Kovšca, president of the National Council of Slovenia, via video link on Sept 16.

The two sides had an in-depth exchange of views on promoting China's relations with Slovenia and Europe and cooperation with the Central and Eastern European countries, as well as friendly exchanges between the CPPCC National Committee and the National Council of Slovenia, and cooperation between the China Economic and Social Council and the European Economic and Social Committee.

Zhang said economic and trade relations between China and Slovenia have been advancing on a fast track in recent years under the Belt and Road Initiative. It's hoped that Slovenia will adhere to the one-China principle and play a constructive role in contributing to pragmatic China-Europe cooperation, he added.

Zhang also said China welcomes the Slovenian delegation to participate in the 2022 Olympic Winter Games in Beijing, adding that the CPPCC National Committee is ready to strengthen ties with the National Council of Slovenia to promote friendly exchanges at all levels.

Kovšca said he firmly supports the one-China policy and the National Council is committed to promoting China's cooperation with Slovenia and Europe.
