A team led by Chen Xiaoguang, vice-chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), visited North China's Inner Mongolia autonomous region from Sept 6 to 10 to inspect the innovative social governance practices in building the system for protected natural areas.
The team of non-CPC members of the CPPCC National Committee reviewed the administration of protected natural areas as well as the preservation and development of ethnic villages. It also exchanged ideas in meeting with government officials of Hulunbuir city and local people.
Chen, also executive vice-chairman of the Central Committee of the China Democratic League, said it's important to follow the leadership of the CPC, improve the mechanism for social governance innovation, and adopt a legal approach in building the system for protected natural areas.
Chen also urged the use of various communication means to improve local residents' awareness of the significance of social governance as well as laws, regulations and policies about protected natural areas.
Efforts should be made to support public participation, improve the volunteer service system, and enhance the capacity of government administration and resident self-governance in the initiative, added Chen.
