A research team led by Liu Qibao, vice-chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), recently concluded a visit to North China's Shanxi province with a mission to better preserve and utilize immovable cultural relics.
China is home to more than 760,000 registered immovable cultural relics, which span a long period of time and have high historical, artistic and scientific value.
The research team from the Committee on Culture, Historical Data and Studies of the CPPCC National Committee conducted the survey as part of preparation for an upcoming expert consultation seminar of the CPPCC National Committee.
The team made field visits to ancient ruins, architectural structures, villages and remains from the revolutionary years in the province's Xinzhou, Yuncheng and Linfen cities, and also convened meetings with local authorities and experts to solicit ideas and suggestions for the preservation work.
Liu said it's important to strengthen the protection and utilization of immovable cultural relics with good planning and a scientific approach. Efforts are also needed to study how to best present such relics, manage their relations with urbanization, tourism and economic and social development, and boost preservation through the alignment of policy moves, institutions, and talents, he added.
