The Committee on Social and Legal Affairs of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) National Committee held a symposium via video link on the judicial protection of minors' rights and interests in Beijing on Aug 26, with a branch venue in the CPPCC Qinghai Provincial Committee.
At the meeting, Chen Xiaoguang, vice-chairman of the CPPCC National Committee, spoke highly of Qinghai's efforts in this field, saying that judicial protection is the last defense in minor protection which relies not only on judicial organs but also on the joint efforts of the whole society.
In recent years, China has been constantly improving judicial protection of minors' rights and interests through the promotion of socialist rule of law, Chen said.
The basic legal framework for the minor protection has been established with continued development of relevant judicial practices, he added.
According to Chen, there are still problems in the judicial protection of minors, such as the implementation of relevant policies and the insufficient coordination between judicial means and protective measures.
He also called for efforts to strengthen theoretical research on the judicial protection of minors' rights and interests, explore innovative practices, stem juvenile delinquencies, and pool more social forces for the cause.
