China needs to adjust its industrial and energy structures and strengthens its scientific and technological support to promote green transformation, said He Wei, vice-chairman of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) National Committee, at a forum on China's ecological health held in Changchun, Northeast China's Jilin province, from July 9 to 10.
Noting China's pledge to peak carbon dioxide emissions by 2030 and achieve carbon neutrality by 2060, He, also executive vice-chairman of the Central Committee of the Chinese Peasants and Workers Democratic Party, called for an energy structure transformation that will create a clean and low-carbon energy system and urged promotion of industrial structural adjustment and improvement of comprehensive governance.
Scientific and technological innovation is an important support to realize innovation-driven growth, he added.
Fulfilling the pledge is key to achieving China's two centennial goals, and a major strategic necessity as the country responds to new international and domestic situations, said He.
