The forum marked the opening of the China Grand Canal Museum located in the city.

In his speech, Liu called for protecting and carrying forward the Grand Canal culture, enhancing environmental protection in the canal basin, and promoting Grand Canal-themed tourism.

He also stressed the importance of constructing a national park of the Grand Canal culture in order to share stories about the canal with the world.
