Wang Yongqing, vice-chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), led a research team to East China's Jiangxi province from June 7 to 10 to look into mental health services.

In the province's cities of Nanchang and Shangrao, the research team conducted in-depth studies into the topic by visiting hospitals, schools, health centers and traffic police brigades, where they had face-to-face talks with frontline workers, officers, managers of social service organizations and experts.

Wang said Jiangxi has made good progress in improving mental care services through multiple measures, such as launching preventative programs, giving priority to key targeted groups, and pooling resources for coordinated responses.

Building a national ethos that upholds self-esteem, self-confidence, rational thinking, peace, friendliness and kindness, Wang said, is key to people's wellbeing and social stability. It's essential to actively meet public needs for mental health services, improve the prediction and prevention of societal risks, and strengthen talent training and policy support. The private sector, schools and families are also encouraged to play important roles in the initiative, he added.
