Led by Ma Biao, vice-chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), a research team visited Sichuan province and Guangxi Zhuang autonomous region from June 1 to 7 to examine local efforts to steer China and ASEAN in forming a community with a shared future.

The team, made up of CPPCC National Committee members and tasked with overseeing the handling of key proposals, conducted an in-depth study of efforts of the two regions in boosting inter-connectivity of transportation infrastructure, economic and trade cooperation, warehousing and logistics, and planning for the digital economy.

As part of the campaign to study the history of the Communist Party of China amid its 100th founding anniversary this year, the group also visited a memorial park and paid tribute to Huang Wenxiu, who led the poverty alleviation efforts in a village in Guangxi and died in a rain-induced flash flood in 2019.

Ma urged Sichuan and Guangxi to fully engage in the China-Singapore land-sea trade corridor initiative, deepen economic and trade cooperation with ASEAN, upgrade industrial, supply and value chains, and strengthen people-to-people and cultural exchanges.

Ma also said the two regions should play a greater role in building a China-ASEAN community with a shared future and in the formation of China's new development paradigm of "dual circulation".
