The Central Committee of the China Democratic League (CDL) held a meeting on June 2 to mark the country's accomplishments in poverty alleviation and honor the initiative's role models.
Ding Zhongli, vice-chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress, chairman of the CDL Central Committee, expressed his warm congratulations to the individuals and organizations who had won the honor, and paid tribute to all CDL members who assisted in the fight against poverty.
Ding said the landmark success has fully demonstrated the political and institutional advantages of socialism with Chinese characteristics under the leadership of the Communist Party of China, and made important contributions to the cause of global poverty alleviation.
He also said the central committee and CDL organizations at all levels went all out to address the tough challenges of poverty reduction, including comprehensive cooperation to mitigate the impacts of COVID-19 in regions receiving poverty relief support from the CDL. In Henan, the committee adopted multiple measures, including field studies, to oversee the work in the province’s 51 poverty-stricken counties, and put forward over 500 suggestions to Party committees and governments at different levels.
Ding said the CDL needs to earnestly implement the decisions and arrangements of the CPC Central Committee and the State Council to consolidate poverty alleviation outcomes and promote rural vitalization, such as by summarizing the lessons learned from pilot programs.
Presided over by Chen Xiaoguang, vice-chairman of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) National Committee and executive vice-chairman of the CDL Central Committee, the meeting honored 147 groups and 479 individuals for directly assisting in poverty alleviation and recognized 120 individuals for their top performance in overseeing the initiative.
