Li Bin, vice-chairwoman of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) National Committee, delivered a keynote speech at the opening of the 2nd Conference of the Global Health Forum of the Boao Forum for Asia in Qingdao, East China's Shandong province, on June 2.

Focusing on strengthening global efforts to fight the COVID-19 pandemic and building a global community of health for all, Li said that people's health is the foundation for the progress of civilization and an important indicator of a country's prosperity.

She noted that China has always attached great importance to the development of its health system, actively implemented the strategy of Healthy China, and provided all-round and full-cycle support for its people.

Apart from taking effective measures to address the domestic COVID-19 situation, she said, China has also offered tangible support for the fight against the virus worldwide.

Li pointed out that the unexpected pandemic tells us that international cooperation is the only way to overcome hardships like this in the age of globalization.

Li called on countries around the world to collaborate to enhance the global public health system, stick to a multilateral approach to global health governance, and make basic medical services more equal and accessible.

More than 2,800 people from 40 countries and regions attended the four-day conference in person or through video link.
