TDSL vows to play bigger part in peaceful development of cross-Straits relations

The Taiwan Democratic Self-government League (TDSL) has vowed to promote the peaceful development of cross-Straits relations and the process of national reunification. 

Su Hui, vice-chairwoman of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) National Committee, made the remarks when addressing a forum in Beijing attended by elites from both sides of the Taiwan Straits on May 19. 

Su, also chairwoman of the TDSL Central Committee, met representatives from Taiwan before the opening of the forum, saying that as a participating political party consisting of members from Taiwan province, the TDSL is willing to carry forward the glorious tradition of Taiwan compatriots' patriotism and their love for their hometown, strive to enhance the well-being of compatriots on both sides of the Straits, and make due contributions to the peaceful development of cross-Straits relations and the reunification of the motherland. 

Li Yuefeng, executive vice-chairman of the TDSL Central Committee, proposed an initiative calling for unification of the vast number of Taiwan compatriots, resolute curbing of separatist activities aimed at "Taiwan independence", and joint efforts for national rejuvenation. 

Li also called for focusing on the common interests and well-being of compatriots on both sides of the Straits, deepening cross-Straits integration and development, inheriting excellent Chinese traditions, history and culture, and building the compatriots’ sense of national identity. 

Taiwan compatriots have gained more growth opportunities and space as a result of the continuous development and progressive governance of the Chinese mainland, according to Wu Rongyuan, chairman of the Taiwan Labor Party. 

After the opening, guests from both the mainland and Taiwan made keynote speeches at the venue or through a video link.
