Liu Xincheng, vice-chairman of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) National Committee, led a team to South China's Guangdong province and East China's Zhejiang province from May 10 to 16, to survey the development of the internet gaming industry.
The team held meetings with local officials and visited local online gaming enterprises and industrial zones as part of its tour.
Liu recognized the progress that Guangdong and Zhejiang have achieved in implementing the central leadership’s instructions on prioritizing social benefit in developing their cultural industries, realizing balanced social and economic gains, and creating a healthy cyberspace for netizens - especially the younger population. A series of policies and measures have been implemented by the two provinces to encourage the development of the industry, and the core socialist values, the Chinese dream and Chinese cultural heritage have been boosted, he pointed out.
Liu emphasized that more work needs to be done to regulate the management of the gaming industry and create gaming products that have balanced social and economic outcomes, enhance addiction prevention work to protect the physical and mental health of minors, amplify technological R&D investment, especially in core technologies with independent intellectual property rights, and incubate talents for the healthy development of the industry.
The tour was a prelude to a CPPCC National Committee teleseminar that will take place in September.
