The Theory Study Center of the leading Party members group of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) National Committee held a group study session on Chinese culture at the National Museum of China on May 10, part of a campaign on Party history learning and education.
Wang Yang, a member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and chairman of the CPPCC National Committee, attended the session, which also included a visit to exhibitions of traditional porcelain art, ancient costumes and fine art masterpieces as well as exchanges with officials from the Ministry of Culture and Tourism and the National Museum of China.
Wang said it's important to have an in-depth study of fine traditional Chinese culture to instill a strong sense of Party principles, and also to further understand the cultural legacies that help define the national identity and the country's aspirations for the future.
Wang also said the CPPCC should give full play to its unique roles in inheriting and carrying forward traditional Chinese culture, both by promoting foreign exchanges and making good use of political consultation. It's also necessary to make full use of many platforms, including the committee's initiatives in calligraphy, painting and Peking and Kun operas, to accommodate traditional culture to the needs of the times and modern society.
