A delegation led by Zhang Qingli, vice-chairman of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) National Committee, conducted a research visit to East China's Anhui province from April 26 to 28 to oversee the handling of a key proposal that calls for improving the care of senior people in military families.
Zhang said that efforts are needed to address the concerns of military families who care for elderly parents and ensure that seniors' medical and health needs are met. This task should be performed with a high sense of responsibility, empathy and a spirit of perseverance. It’s also fundamental to take different services - such as medical care, livelihood subsidies and relief assistance - into full consideration, in order to facilitate gradual progress in this initiative.
In highlighting the significance of this endeavor, Zhang noted that the proposal was designed to inherit the fine tradition of military-civilian unity, advance the country's defense capabilities in line with economic growth, and cope with the unprecedented global changes in a century.
During their stay, the delegation visited veterans' service stations, hospitals, private nursing homes and the families of servicemen and martyrs.
