Li Bin, vice-chairwoman of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) National Committee, led a survey of eco-environmental protection of China's major lakes in East China's Jiangsu province from April 13 to 16.
The survey team, made up of members of the Committee on Population, Resources and Environment of the CPPCC National Committee, examined the eco-environment and water quality of Taihu, Hongze and Gaoyou lakes, and held meetings with local officials.
Recognizing the province's success in dramatically improving the lakes' eco-environment, Li urged adequate awareness of the importance of the lakes' eco-environmental protection, deep understanding of the protection system, a scientific balance between environmental protection and resource development, and constant optimization of relevant management systems and working mechanisms.
She also called on CPPCC members to continue studying and advising on key issues of ecological protection including lake conservation.
