In celebration of the World Engineering Day, the China Association of Science and Technology (CAST) held a ceremony for the founding of the Chinese Society of Engineers on March 18. Wan Gang, vice-chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), delivered a speech at the ceremony.

Pointing out the pivotal role of engineering talents in propelling the development of the engineering sciences and spurring innovation, Wan, also chairman of CAST, said the society will better help these talents reach their full potential, contribute to social and economic development, strengthen communication and cooperation between Chinese and international engineering societies, and contribute more Chinese wisdom and strength to the realization of the global Sustainable Development Goals and the building of a community with a shared future for mankind.

He said he hopes the society will build more exchange platforms for engineers worldwide, safeguard the safety and stability of global industrial and innovation chains, and promote the economic recovery and sustainable development of the world in the post-pandemic era.

The society was jointly founded by 76 influential national and local engineering societies, universities and enterprises, with the aim of unifying all relevant social forces to build an engineering community with shared causes, values and future.

Sixteen international and foreign engineering organizations including the International Engineering Alliance sent congratulatory letters to the new society.
