Su Hui, vice-chairwoman of the 13th Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) National Committee, stressed the urgency and great potential of drawing on non-governmental exchanges across the Taiwan Straits to promote reunification of China while attending the fourth members' conference of the Across the Strait Taiwanese Exchange Association (ASTEA) held via video link on March 16.

During the event, which was also the first plenary session of the ASTEA's fourth council, Su was elected president of the council.

Noting that there are new opportunities and challenges in the handling of the Taiwan-related work and that the time is on our side, Su said that the cross-Straits non-governmental exchanges should serve as a link in the peaceful and integrated development of the cross-Straits relations.

She called on the ASTEA to enhance its function as a social organization and explore new ways to boost such exchanges.

The meeting also adopted the work report of the ASTEA's third council and draft revisions to the ASTEA's charter.
