Guo Weimin, spokesperson for the fourth session of the 13th CPPCC National Committee, said on Wednesday the CPPCC National Committee will strive to enhance and support the "patriots governing Hong Kong" principle.

In a press briefing a day before the start of the session, Guo stressed "patriots governing Hong Kong" is the essence of "one country, two systems" and the fundamental principle that must be followed in order to fully and faithfully implement the "one country, two systems" framework.

Both the enactment of the National Security Law for Hong Kong and the proposals to improve Hong Kong's electoral system will improve "one country, two systems" and ensure a sustained and steady implementation of the framework, he said.

The CPPCC has attached great importance to Hong Kong's development, which is facing setbacks brought by not only the pandemic, but also social unrest.

But Guo believed Hong Kong, if it stands in solidarity, will see a bright future with the nation's backing.

The nation has not only offered assistance to the city to combat the pandemic, but also lend a helping hand to assure its social and economic stability, he added.

Guo said Hong Kong's destiny is intertwined with that of the nation. The rapid development of the nation in recent years has provided ample opportunities for Hong Kong, including the Belt and Road, the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area and free-trade pilot zones, he said.

The central government also rolled out measures to help buttress Hong Kong's status as an international financial center and facilitated Hong Kong companies' foray into the Chinese mainland market.
