A symposium on promoting Chinese operas was held by the China Peking Opera Arts Foundation and the Peking Opera and Kunqu Opera affairs office under the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) National Committee in Beijing on Dec 25.
Lu Zhangong, vice-chairman of the CPPCC National Committee, made a speech at the meeting. A group of young Peking Opera actors were invited to attend the event.
The attendees mentioned that the Fifth Plenary Session of the 19th Central Committee of the Communist Party of China has set a timetable for developing China into a strong cultural power by 2035. Standing at the crossroad of the "Two Centenary Goals", China will set out on a new journey to develop socialist culture with Chinese characteristics in the new era.
Opera is the treasure of Chinese culture, and the key to its prosperity and development lies in its practitioners. Greater efforts should be made by the country's opera community to cultivate young talents, the attendees agreed.
Young Peking opera actors are encouraged to fulfill their mission of improving the nation's cultural soft power.
The actors at the symposium said they will enhance their cultural self-confidence and inherit the tradition of the art while innovating and developing it with the times.
