The third cross-Straits forum on education science, which focused on the contemporary value of traditional Chinese thought on education, was held in Southwest China's Chongqing municipality on Dec 17.

Eighteen education scholars and experts from both sides of the Taiwan Straits attended, in person or via video link, the event, which was jointly sponsored by the Ye Shengtao Research Association of China (YRAC) and Southwest University.

Liu Xincheng, vice-chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) and executive vice-chairman of the Central Committee of the China Association for Promoting Democracy (CAPD), delivered a speech at the forum.

Traditional Chinese thought on education is not only an important part of traditional Chinese culture, but also has contributed significantly to education development around the world and exerted profound influence on global development, said Liu, who is also executive vice-president of the YRAC.

He called on compatriots across the Straits to join hands to inherit and adapt the thought in accordance with modern education theory.

During the forum, scholars from both sides of the Straits carried out discussions on such topics as moral education and the impact of COVID-19 on education equality.

Initiated by the YRAC in 2014 as a small-scale and high-end platform for cross-Straits academic communication, the forum has received extensive attention from academic circles on both sides of the Straits.
