A delegation of the Committee on Education, Science, Health and Sports of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) National Committee has concluded an inspection visit to Southwest China's Sichuan province looking at progress made in improving rural schools.

From Nov 30 to Dec 3, the delegation of non-Party members of the CPPCC National Committee visited 17 middle and elementary schools in six towns across the province’s Guangyuan and Bazhong cities. During meetings with local officials, the delegation held in-depth exchanges over many issues, such as teachers' training and the mental health of left-behind children.

Zhu Zhiwen, head of the delegation and deputy chairman of the Committee on Education, Science, Health and Sports, recognized the great strides made in improving infrastructure and quality of compulsory education in rural schools as a result of the enormous efforts of local CPC committees and governments in the two cities.

Zhu called for more efforts to ensure every school-age child has equal access to more quality educational resources and to strengthen application of information technology in rural schools.
