Zhang Qingli, vice-chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), has called for more efforts to develop industries capable of increasing rural people's incomes and promoting rural revitalization at a forum in Guiyang city, Southwest China's Guizhou province.
The forum, which was held on Nov 30 and Dec 1, was co-organized by the China Economic and Social Council (CESC) and the CPPCC Guizhou Provincial Committee.
Zhang, also chairman of the CESC, said great strides have already been made and valuable experiences achieved in the development of these industries as part of the tough battle against poverty and the efforts to build a moderately prosperous society in all respects.
A development priority towards industries that can boost rural people's incomes will be a cornerstone of implementing the rural revitalization strategy and also a natural part of realizing common prosperity for everyone, said Zhang.
As China pins its hopes on a new development paradigm to boost the economy and focuses on quality-orientated growth, pioneering efforts should be directed to agricultural cooperative initiatives, training of talents and the leading role of grassroots Party organizations, according to Zhang.
He also noted the importance of getting farmers' engagement in those efforts so that they can better share the benefits and also ensure the sustainable development of industries.
The two-day event included discussions of business cases and a visit to an industrial development project in Qingzhen city overseen by Guiyang.
