Wang Yongqing, vice-chairman of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) National Committee, delivered a speech at a symposium that was held to gather the wisdom on accelerating the modernization of social governance in China's cities and counties.

Held by the Committee on Social and Legal Affairs of the CPPCC National Committee in Beijing on Nov 26, the symposium was attended by 32 CPPCC National Committee members and experts.

As a crucial part of China's state governance, social governance concerns people's immediate interests and the long-term governance of the Communist Party of China and the lasting stability and security of the Chinese nation, said Wang.

Wang acknowledged the symposium's positive effect achieved by collecting ideas and building consensus. Meanwhile, he called on the participants to deeply understand and effectively implement the CPC Central Committee's decisions and deployments in social governance.

Wang stressed that modernizing social governance in localities like cities and counties is a profound revolution in people's conception and behaviors.

He urged efforts to solve the recurring and common problems influencing social stability and order under the overall leadership of the Party.

He called for promoting the awareness of rules and rule of law in society, the establishment of a joint governance pattern, clearer division of responsibilities and better risk control

The participating CPPCC members said that by reviewing China's historic achievements in urban and rural social governance since the 18th CPC National Congress, they had deepened their understanding of the significance and path of promoting the modernization of social governance in cities and counties.
