Wang Yang, a member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee and chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), met with recipients of a national award for outstanding work in poverty alleviation in Beijing on Oct 17.

Wang congratulated the outstanding institutions and individuals receiving the award and expressed his respect for people engaged in poverty alleviation.

Wang urged all the awardees to study and implement the instructions of President Xi Jinping, also general secretary of the CPC Central Committee and chairman of the Central Military Commission, on securing a complete victory in the battle against poverty.

Wang said that faced with the challenges of COVID-19, poverty relief work has been persistently pushed forward and a final victory is in sight thanks to the leadership of the CPC Central Committee with Xi at its core and the unremitting efforts of people from all walks of life across China.

China's achievements in poverty alleviation have also demonstrated the country's political and institutional advantages, Wang added.

Wang noted that all localities should maintain momentum and exert persistent efforts to ensure the country achieves the goal of high-quality poverty eradication.

Wang also called on people from all walks of life to study the meritorious deeds of award winners, follow them as examples, and contribute to consolidating the poverty relief achievements, realizing rural revitalization and gradually achieving common prosperity.

Also present at the meeting was Hu Chunhua, a member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and chief of the State Council leading group on poverty alleviation and development.
