Wang Yang, a member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee and chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), sent a congratulatory letter to the Chinese General Chamber of Commerce (CGCC) in Hong Kong on Oct 15 as it celebrated its 120th anniversary.

In his letter, Wang affirmed CGCC's upholding of the fine tradition of love for the motherland and Hong Kong and its founding principle of promoting the development of industry and commerce and enhancing the prosperity of Hong Kong. 

He spoke highly of the chamber's role in promoting economic exchanges and cooperation between Hong Kong and the Chinese mainland, uniting and leading Hong Kong's business circle to firmly support the "one country, two systems" principle and the Basic Law, as well as maintaining the region's prosperity and stability and promoting national reform and opening-up.

He said he hopes the CGCC will continue to hold high the banner of patriotism, fully and accurately understand and take the lead in publicizing and implementing the "one country, two systems" principle and the Basic Law, firmly support the Special Administrative Region's chief executive and its government in their administration according to law, and give full support to the Hong Kong SAR in the implementation of the National Security Law.

He also suggested that the chamber should actively contribute to the country's opening-up, promote the integration of Hong Kong into the national development strategy, serve the society, care for the growth of young people, and make new and greater contributions to maintaining Hong Kong's long-term prosperity and stability and to realizing the Chinese Dream of national rejuvenation.

Tung Chee-hwa, vice-chairman of the CPPCC National Committee, Hong Kong Chief Executive Carrie Lam Cheng Yuet-ngor and more than 300 representatives from all walks of life in Hong Kong attended the celebration.
