Zhangjiakou, North China's Hebei province, should promote its winter sports industry to achieve leapfrog development in the next five years, said a delegation of CPPCC National Committee members from the Central Committee of the Revolutionary Committee of the Chinese Kuomintang during a survey tour of the 2022 Winter Olympics co-host city from Sept 27-28.

Zheng Jianbang, vice-chairman of the CPPCC National Committee and executive vice-chairman of the Central Committee of the Revolutionary Committee of the Chinese Kuomintang, and Qi Xuchun, former executive vice-chairman of the Central Committee of the Revolutionary Committee of the Chinese Kuomintang, led the two-day thematic survey on the northern Chinese city's winter sports industry and recreation and health care industry in its run-up preparation to the 2022 Winter Olympic Games.

Zheng stressed that the development of the ice and snow industry and health care industry is of significance to the fulfillment of the scientific thought of ecological conservation, green development and the Healthy China initiative. It also plays a crucial role in maintaining moderate economic growth.

Zhangjiakou enjoys favorable climatic, geographical and human conditions for developing the ice and snow industry and the related recreation and health care industry, said Zheng. The city should seize historic opportunities and develop its unique advantages for a constant leap-forward development in the upcoming 14th Five-Year Plan (2021-25) period, added Zheng.

The city should base development on its actual situation, and precisely position itself onto the coordinated development of the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei region, and strengthen communication and cooperation with other Chinese regions abundant in ice and snow resources.

It should also strive to host more international sports events, exhibitions, and forums in order to explore a superior development path with Chinese characteristics for the country's ice and snow industry and health care industry, he said.

The delegation paid a visit to an exhibition hall showcasing Zhangjiakou's plan for the 2022 Winter Olympics, a skiing-themed town and the Guanting Reservoir National Wetland Park in Huailai county. They also visited some venues of the 2022 Winter Olympics including the Thaiwoo Ski Resort in Chongli district, a venue for the skiing competition.

The delegation held talks with officials from the 2022 Winter Olympics organizing committee, the Hebei provincial preparatory office for the Games, and Zhangjiakou city, listened to their suggestions, and made their commitment to boosting the related industries.
