Su Hui, vice-chairwoman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) and chairwoman of the Central Committee of the Taiwan Democratic Self-Government League, addressed the opening of the third cross-Straits grassroots governance forum via video link on Sept 21.

The forum, which opened in Fuzhou, East China's Fujian province, was launched by the CPPCC to facilitate cross-Straits cooperation at the primary level, and it has grown into an institutionalized platform that helps strengthen exchanges and cooperation between towns and villages on both sides of the Taiwan Straits, according to Su.

She noted that this year's forum, with the theme of improving basic public health services at the grassroots level, invited the participants to fully share their experiences and practices in the fight against COVID-19 and to work out new ideas and measures for cross-Straits cooperation in basic public health services, in order to improve local basic public health service systems on both sides of the Straits.

Today's world is experiencing great changes that have not happened in a century, and the global pandemic has accelerated these great changes, Su said.

However, the overall strategic situation of the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation has not changed and the historical trend of realizing the reunification of the motherland is irresistible, she stressed.

She also called on compatriots on both sides of the Straits to work together to overcome difficulties.

As an important part of the 12th Straits Forum, the event was organized by the Committee on Liaison with Hong Kong, Macao, Taiwan and Overseas Chinese of the CPPCC National Committee and the CPPCC Fujian Provincial Committee.
