Overseas Chinese nationals will contribute more to the fight against poverty in China and become bridges linking the country and the outside world, said representatives of overseas Chinese nationals during a visit to Southwest China's Sichuan province from Sept 6 to 11.
Led by Zhu Xiaodan, chairman of the Committee on Liaison with Hong Kong, Macao, Taiwan and Overseas Chinese of the CPPCC National Committee, a delegation of 23 overseas Chinese nationals from 13 countries and regions made a field inspection in the poverty-stricken areas of Chengdu, the capital city, and the southeastern remote regions of the province in Luzhou city and Yibin city.
The delegation visited poverty relief projects such as local characteristic industries, household relocation and high-quality development, and held talks with local enterprises from Luzhou and Yibin.
The prominent problems in poverty relief, such as food and clothing, education, medicare and housing, have been solved in Sichuan on the whole despite the arduousness of the task, according to the group.
At the same time, they believed the southwestern province's determination and resolution to combat poverty would give them a final victory over poverty.
The overseas Chinese expressed their willingness to publicize China's stories and the homeland's poverty alleviation efforts and actively play their role in spreading traditional cultures of the Chinese nation and exerting their efforts in the battle against poverty.
Overseas Chinese become more confident in the Chinese nation's victory over poverty and its ability to build a moderately prosperous society in all respects after the tour, said Zhu.
He said he expects overseas Chinese to build up their ideological, cultural and emotional recognition of the great strength of the socialist system with Chinese characteristics and uphold their confidence in jointly building the Chinese dream.
Zhu also encouraged overseas Chinese to make contributions to fostering a new development pattern whereby domestic and foreign markets can boost each other, with the domestic market as the mainstay.
The overseas Chinese are called on to gather their strength and work together in building China into a modern socialist country, promoting the peaceful reunification of the Chinese nation, and building a community with a shared future for mankind.
