Senior CPPCC members brainstorm ideas on consultation rules

BEIJING -- A brainstorming session for members of the chairperson's council of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference National Committee was held on July 20 to discuss formulating the rules of consultation.

Wang Yang, a member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee and chairman of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) National Committee, presided over the meeting and delivered a speech.

The principles, contents, forms, and procedures of the CPPCC's consultative work were also discussed, among other topics.

Applauding the achievements in the institutional construction of the CPPCC, the CPPCC members called for strengthening the awareness of consultation, and improving consultation capability and effectiveness.

Noting that a wider range of topics should be covered, the CPPCC members called for increasing the proportion of culture and ecology-related topics while continuing to focus on economic and social progress and people's wellbeing.

They pointed out that various forms of consultation, including online consultations, should be promoted.

Prior to brainstorming session held on July 1, Wang also presided over a meeting held by the Chairperson's Council of the CPPCC National Committee.

It was decided at the meeting that the Standing Committee of the 13th CPPCC National Committee will convene its 13th session in Beijing from Aug. 25 to 27 to discuss the formulation of the 14th five-year plan for economic and social development.

The meeting approved the draft agenda and schedule for the upcoming standing committee meeting as well as a report on the work of the first half of 2020 made by the Chairperson's Council.
