Gu Shengzu, vice-chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference and executive vice-chairman of the Central Committee of the China National Democratic Construction Association, called for enhancing the self-reliance of relocated impoverished population during a recent inspection tour in Guangxi Zhuang autonomous region.

Gu pointed out that it is critical to promote the effective incorporation of the relocated population into the economic and social self-circulation of the places where they are resettled, and to enhance their self-reliance as to poverty eradication.

According to Gu, the poverty relief effort for the relocated population should be focused on such aspects as urbanization of the population and shifting of the agricultural workforce, introduction of suitable industries, skill training, improvement of public services, diversification of income sources, ecological restoration of the places from which they were relocated and building of a community governance system that can facilitate their merging with their new home communities.

During his inspection tour, Gu also exchanged ideas on Guangxi's poverty relief work by phone with Lu Xinshe, Party secretary of the region.
