The Committee on Economic Affairs of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) held a video conference on June 3 to learn about poverty alleviation work in Southwest China's Yunnan province.

The conference focused on stepping up poverty reduction through industrial development and consolidation of achievements.

The committee's vice-chairpersons including Yu Guangzhou, Sun Sijing and Cao Peixi attended the conference in Beijing, while Li Zhengyang, vice-chairman of the CPPCC Yunnan Provincial Committee, chaired the parallel session in Kunming, capital of Yunnan.

Commissioned by the General Office of the CPPCC National Committee, the CPPCC Yunnan Provincial Committee carried out a survey of poverty alleviation in May and submitted a report to the Committee on Economic Affairs.

The province's Department of Agriculture and Rural Affairs reported at the conference on Yunnan's targeted measures to develop local industries related to poverty reduction.

The province's efforts have delivered remarkable results with the per capita disposable income of rural residents in Yunnan's poor areas exceeding 10,000 yuan ($1,410.89) last year.

Besides, by the end of 2019, all eligible poor households in the province had joined the industrial projects that were launched for poverty relief.

Amid the COVID-19 outbreak, local authorities ramped up efforts to dampen the negative effects of the epidemic. In the first quarter of 2020, the average income growth of the rural poor in Yunnan managed to keep pace with that of rural residents in poverty-stricken areas across the country.

The Committee on Economic Affairs will now learn from Yunnan's experience and study constructive proposals put forward at the conference so as to be better prepared for the upcoming 12th meeting of the Standing Committee of the 13th CPPCC National Committee.
