Pledges made at 31st chairperson's council meeting

The 31st chairperson's council meeting of the 13th National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference, held on Dec 17 in Beijing, studied the spirit of the Central Economic Work Conference.

The CPPCC meeting was presided over by Wang Yang, chairman of the CPPCC National Committee. Wang said the Central Economic Work Conference has made a comprehensive plan for economic work in 2020 and was an important meeting to sum up experiences, analyze situations, articulate missions and extol diligence. 

CPPCC members at all levels will follow the core leadership, meet Party requirements, think about economic development in big-picture terms, promote consultation and deliberation, organize visits and research, share insights and build consensus, in order to contribute to the conclusion of building a moderately prosperous society in all respects and the 13th Five-Year Plan (2016-20). 

Wang said the year 2020 is a very important year in the history of the Party and the nation, and the CPPCC will perform its duties and responsibilities to complete tasks set out from the top. 

The chairperson's council meetings, as the command post of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference National Committee, will keep itself competent and strong, strengthen research and investigation, take active part in consultation and deliberation and keep contributing wisdom and strength to the construction of a moderately prosperous society in all respects, as well as to better the role of the CPPCC.

The attendees heard reports from the CPPCC National Committee's special committees on their work, including the Committee for Handling Proposals and the Committee for Ethnic and Religious Affairs.

Wang said the chairperson's council meetings had heard reports from 10 special committees so far this year. He called for developing the governance system, improving the quality of work and making new progress.  

The attendees also heard a report on the implementation of key proposals in 2019, and reviewed and approved the draft agenda and schedule of the 10th meeting of the Standing Committee of the 13th CPPCC National Committee. 

It was decided that the 10th meeting will be held between Feb 28 and 29 next year in Beijing.

During the meeting, Guo Weimin, a CPPCC National Committee member and a member of the Committee for Foreign Affairs of the CPPCC National Committee, was designated as the spokesman for the third session of the 13th National Committee of the CPPCC.
