President of Panama Laurentino Cortizo Quesada met with a visiting Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference National Committee delegation led by Liu Qibao, vice-chairman of the CPPCC National Committee, on Dec 9, 2019. The delegation was attending the 13th China-LAC Business Summit held in the country.

At the opening ceremony of the summit, Liu and Cortizo delivered keynote speeches and visited the China-LAC trade and investment fair. Liu said China and Latin America have significant roles as developing economies and emerging markets. Grasping the opportunity of the Belt and Road Initiative, China is willing to work with its counterparts in Latin America to push China-Latin America relations to a new height by deepening business and cultural exchanges and promoting innovative and higher-level collaborations.

During the visit, Liu also met with President of the National Assembly of Panama Marcos Castillero and Panamanian Foreign Minister Alejandro Ferrer. Sponsored by the China Council for the Promotion of International Trade, the Ministry of Industry and Commerce of Panama and the American Development Bank, the summit, which attracted nearly 1,300 delegates, was focused on Belt and Road international cooperation and China-Latin America common prosperity.
