A delegation of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference National Committee led by committee vice-chairman Leung Chun-ying visited Sanya city, capital of Hainan province, on Nov 29 as a start of a five-day research survey. 

Shen Xiaoming, deputy secretary of the CPC Hainan Provincial Committee and the governor of Hainan province, met with the delegation. 

The aims of the delegation's Hainan visit were introduced in the meeting by Yin Zonghua, executive vice-director of the Committee on Liaison with Hong Kong, Macao, Taiwan and Overseas Chinese under the CPPCC National Committee. 

The first is to gain knowledge about the province's economic and social development achievements and its efforts to comprehensively deepen reform and opening-up and construct a Hainan Free Trade Pilot Zone and free trade ports with Chinese characteristics. 

The second is to further deepen comprehensive Hainan-Hong Kong cooperation based on Hainan's needs and Hong Kong's advantages to support the construction of that pilot zone and those free trade ports. 

Shen welcomed the delegation's visit and described the development of Hainan's economy, culture, environmental protection and tourism. 

Leung acknowledged Shen's comprehensive and splendid briefing, and said that the Hainan Provincial Political Consultative Conference was thoroughly prepared and supplied detailed reference materials for the members of the National Committee of the CPPCC from Hong Kong. Leung also affirmed that those materials were closely related to the research and provided a clear guide.

Although the research visit was made with tight schedules and a full range of activities, the delegation members were expected to look, listen and offer ideas for Hainan's development and construction of the Hainan Pilot Free Trade Zone and of free trade ports with Chinese characteristics, as well as Hainan-Hong Kong cooperation. 

Leung also expressed the hope that the members would keep an unaltered focus on certain questions, and care for and promote Hainan's development and Hainan-Hong Kong cooperation. 

The head of the delegation was Lee Ka Kit, a member of the Standing Committee of the CPPCC National Committee, who's also the chairman of Henderson Land Development Company. The consultant of the delegation was Tan Tieniu, a member of the Standing Committee of the CPPCC National Committee and deputy director of the Liaison Office of the Central People's Government in the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region. 

Hainan officials including Mao Wanchun, chairman of the Hainan Provincial Committee of the CPPCC, Tong Daochi, a member of the Standing Committee of the CPC Hainan Provincial Committee and secretary of the CPC Sanya Municipal Committee, as well as Ma Yongxia and Li Guoliang, vice-chairmen of the Hainan Provincial Committee of CPPCC, attended the meeting.
