Modernization of the social governance system should be accelerated in Chinese cities and counties, CPPCC members said during a thematic inspection tour to North China's Shanxi province from Sept 6 to 7.

Chen Xiaoguang, vice-chairperson of the CPPCC National Committee and executive vice chairman of the Central Committee of the China Democratic League, led a group of CPPCC members who are not Communist Party of China (CPC) members on a visit of the municipal public complaints and proposals center, a residential community and a police station of Taiyuan city, the provincial capital, as well as a public security bureau and a new residential village of Datong city, the second largest city of the province.

The modernization of China's system and capacity for governance requires stepping up social governance from the primary level including cities and counties, Chen said when they met local residents and officials and witnessed the results of sound local governance.

It is vital for people's livelihood, social stability and the country's long-term peace and order that local regions accelerate modernization of social governance and establish and improve a major social risk prevention and response mechanism, emphasized Chen.

As was put forward by the fourth plenary session of the 19th CPC Central Committee, a social governance system can be realized and improved through collaboration, participation, and common interests.

Chen said that local organs must implement the central government's deployment and unswervingly insist on social governance with Chinese characteristics to build a more peaceful China.

Many local governments have already gained crucial experience in preventing and resolving social risks, according to Chen.

Chen called on CPPCC members to experience the progress of the modernization of China's system and capacity for governance in recent years, including the vitality and order of economic and social development and the creativity and devotion of the grassroots residents and officials, and to simultaneously reinforce political, ideological, theoretical and emotional recognition of the CPC and socialism with Chinese characteristics for a wider consensus.

Shen Deyong, chairman of the Committee on Social and Legal Affairs of the CPPCC National Committee, Lv Zhongmei, standing vice chairwoman of the committee, and Li Jia, chairman of the CPPCC Shanxi Provincial Committee, also took part in the inspection tour.
